Access the Request Form using your MyNOVA username and password.

Important

Your courses will be DROPPED if:

  • Students must enroll in courses via the SIS Portal before completing the online VERF. Upon enrolling in courses in the SIS, students must wait 24 hours for courses to populate into the online VERF to submit for certification.
  • tuition and fees are not paid in full by the tuition deadline drop date if you are less than 100%;
  • the online form is submitted after 5 p.m. on the date tuition is due;
  • the online form is submitted after 5 p.m. on any day following the tuition deadline;
  • the online form is submitted on WEEKENDS/HOLIDAYS after the tuition deadline.

Successful Certification of Classes

  • No remedial or self-paced course will be certified. This includes face-to-face, online, or hybrid courses. The following courses are considered self-paced as per VA regulations:
    • MTT and BSK courses
  • Students must choose courses that apply to their current degree program in the NOVA SIS Portal and VA Once. Only classes within one degree program will be certified per term, and classes outside of that program will not be certified.
  • You must be an enrolled Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) student.
  • You must have a Student ID Number to access the online certification forms.
  • Suppose you are a first time student of NOVA. In that case, you need to submit a Certificate of Eligibility proving that you are entitled to a benefit and submit an electronic scan of that COE as an attachment with your online Veterans Enrollment Form.
  • If you have an entitlement that is less than 100%, you are responsible for paying the difference in fees before an online certification is submitted. Courses that are certified without payment will be subject to an automatic drop after the deadline drop date has passed.
  • After the INITIAL certification has been submitted, you will be sent an email confirming the receipt of the certification.
  • Any changes after the INITIAL request will be done with the online ADJUSTMENT in the event of changes to a class schedule. Before submitting the adjustment form, changes must first be made in the NOVA SIS Portal. If changes are not made in the NOVA SIS Portal, the change in class schedule will not be submitted to the VA, which may result in under or overpayment of benefits that can result in a debt that will be owed.

Things to Remember

  • Students must choose courses that apply to their current degree program in the NOVA SIS Portal and VA Once. Only classes within one degree program will be certified per term, and classes outside of that program will not be certified.
  • When completing your Online Veterans Enrollment Request Form, you must ensure that all classes needing to be certified are registered within the NOVA SIS portal and may see their campus veterans advisor for assistance with registration.
  • All associated documents, such as Certificate of Eligibility (Ch 30, 31, 33, 35, 1606), Parent Letters, VocRehab Form 1905, and any medical program acceptance letters, can be uploaded in the online certification process.
  • If you submit your Online Veterans Enrollment Request Form, you DO NOT need to come into the office. If there are any problems with your Online VERF, you will be contacted via your NVCC email account; please check this email regularly during registration.
  • If you are trying to repeat a course from the current semester and no grade has officially been posted in your "myNOVA," we cannot certify that course to the VA. Please do not submit a VERF until the grade is officially posted.
  • If you are required to pay a portion of tuition and fees based on your benefit percentage (less than 100%) and have not paid, DO NOT submit a VERF. We cannot certify your courses to the VA until your portion of tuition and fees are paid by financial aid, or a payment plan has been established.
