Mathematics (Developmental)

Developmental Math is in the process of being redesigned at NOVA. Pilot sections of the revised course will be offered during the Spring semester at each campus, using the MTH 1 designation. This new course will allow you to skip sections of material in which you already can demonstrate competency, and concentrate on the material in which you demonstrate weaknesses. If your placement test score placed you into MTH 2, MTH 3 or MTH 4, this option will work for you. Further testing will be done to determine where your weaknesses begin. You will then work through a structured set of activities, using MyMathLab, an online learning system, under the close guidance and support of an instructor and tutors. You will meet for two hours per week in a computer classroom with your instructor, and will also attend the open computer math lab for a minimum of two additional hours per week. Go to the Science and Math Division office at your campus to learn more about the new MTH 1 course structure.
