Schedule of Classes - Summer 2009

A REFRESHER FOR CONTINUING STUDENTS

Thank you for choosing to continue your academic studies with NOVA. We look forward to your return to NOVA in Summer 2009. Because you have registered for classes in the past, you are already familiar with the enrollment process. Simply follow the steps outlined below. If you need more information, refer to the section for new student admission on page X.

NOTE: If it has been more than three years since your last class at NOVA, you must reapply for admission.

STEP 1          Apply for Financial Aid
If you haven’t already filed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2008-2009, you must file no later than April 1, 2009 in order to receive aid in time to pay your tuition and fees for Summer 2009. Summer session is part of the previous academic year. See the Financial Aid section (page 14) for more information. Be sure to include the College’s School Code: NVCC 003727

STEP 2          Meet With Your Advisor
Set up a meeting with your faculty advisor or counselor before you register to make sure you’re taking the right courses to achieve your academic goals. This is especially important if you plan to transfer to another college or university.

If you will be graduating, you must meet with your faculty advisor as soon as possible, but no later than May 22. to review your academic record. You must submit your application for summer term graduation to the Student Service Center by June 2, but earlier is better. http://www.nvcc.edu/current-students/graduation/index.html

STEP 3          Enroll in Classes – Priority Registration by Assigned Day
To enroll for classes, use NOVAConnect on the Web at www.nvcc.edu/novaconnect/ or the NOVAConnect telephone enrollment system at 703-323-3770 or 703-330-3770 (Prince William County). See page 17 for NOVAConnect Telephone Enrollment assistance. 

STEP 4          Pay Your Tuition
See the Tuition, Payment, and Refund Information on page 12 for a step-by-step guide to paying your tuition and fees. Be sure to pay your tuition by the deadline date indicated.

You are financially responsible for all classes for which you register; therefore, you should
check your account through NOVAConnect to verify that all tuition and fees have been paid. If you decide to drop a class, you must cancel it through NOVAConnect or notify the College.

If you fail to do so, you will be charged for that class and may receive a failing grade. If you wish to pay your tuition in installments, you must enroll in the Deferred Tuition Payment Plan before your tuition due date. STEP 5          Print Receipts
Remember to print out a copy of your class schedule every time you make a change. Don’t forget to print out a copy of your payment receipt also.

STEP 6          Buy Your Books
You can purchase your books at the campus bookstore where the course is taught (ELI books available at Alexandria), or order them online at http://nvcc.bncollege.com. Students with adequate financial aid may use that aid to purchase textbooks at the College’s bookstores from May 4 to June 1, 2009.

USE APPROVED FINANCIAL AID TO BUY BOOKS AND SUPPLIES

From January 2 through January 28, 2009*, you can use your approved financial aid award to purchase books and supplies if you can answer “YES” to the following questions:

Are you enrolled in classes?
Financial aid awards are based on full-time enrollment (12+ semester credits). If you are enrolled for fewer credits, you will not have as much money available for tuition, fees, and books. Be sure that you are satisfied with your enrollment before going to the bookstore; if you add a class, you may need additional money to pay your tuition. If you drop a class, you may end up owing money to the College.

Do you have an approved financial aid award?
You have approved financial aid if you have received an award letter. You must have a completed promissory note and entrance interview to use your student loan at the bookstore. To check your award status online, go to www.nvcc.edu/novaconnect. (Sorry, work-study may not be used for this program.)

Do you have a NOVACard with your student ID number displayed on the front?
If not, you can go to NOVACard Services at any campus to obtain one.

Is your account free of holds?
If you have a hold on your account, you will not be able to purchase books with financial aid.

*Dates apply to 16 week session; financial aid may be used to purchase books beginning 10 days before the first class through the census date.

24 Hours After You Enroll:

STEP 7          Buy Your Parking Permit (not required at ARL, RES, or off-campus locations)
Beginning March 31, permits can be purchased online at http://parking.nvcc.edu and your permit will then be mailed to you. Temporary, seven-day passes can be printed from the Web site for immediate use. See the New Student section on page 6 for complete details.

STEP 8          Get Your Student Identification Card (NOVACard)…
NOVACards are valid for two years. For more information, go to www.nvcc.edu/novacard.

STEP 9          Activate Your Free Student E-Mail Account
If your free NOVA e-mail account is not active, activate it before the start of Summer 2009 classes. For instructions, go to www.nvcc.edu/ithd/student/email/google.htm.
