How to Register for a Class

  1. Visit the Schedule of Classes. Search for a class and select the class number.

  2. Enroll in credit classes at NOVA, use our Student Information System (SIS).
    Click here for step-by-step tutorials.

  3. Access the Student Information System (SIS) and log in to myNOVA.
    Look up your username and set your password from the myNOVA login page.

  4. Need help on searching for an online class? Find a NOVA Online Class.

How to Register for a Workforce or Continuing Education Class

For those interested in short-term professional and continuing education courses outside of our credit programs, registration is continuous throughout the semester and remains open until the course maximum is reached. Please contact the NOVA Workforce office for more information.

Class Formats

NOVA offers flexible class formats designed to fit your learning needs and schedule. Course formats may use Canvas (course platform) to access materials and assignments and Zoom (virtual classroom) for live online sessions. Explore your options below to find the format that works best for you.

In-Person Classes (On Campus)

Tools: CANVAS (for supplemental learning)
Location: 100% on campus
Schedule: Meets during scheduled class times

How to Register: Use MyNOVA (SIS) and search for Mode of Instruction - In Person.

  1. Select a campus location for in-person meetings.
  2. Read the course notes carefully for additional details.

Hybrid and HyFlex Classes (On Campus and Online)

Tools: CANVAS or Zoom (for supplemental learning)
Location: 50% on campus, 50% online
Schedule: Meets during scheduled class times

How to Register: Use MyNOVA (SIS) and search for Mode of Instruction - In Person.

  1. Take the quiz: Is a Hybrid Course Right for Me?
  2. Select a campus location for in-person meetings.
  3. Look for section numbers containing "Y" (e.g., 02YA).
  4. Read the course notes carefully for additional details.

Live-Streamed Classes (Meet Online at Scheduled Times)

Tools: Zoom
Location: 100% online from home
Schedule: Attend live online classes during scheduled class times.

How to Register: Use MyNOVA (SIS) and search for Mode of Instruction - Interactive Classroom Video.

  1. Read the course notes carefully for additional details.
  2. The location will be listed as Virtual - Zoom.
  3. The room assignment will be listed as Virtual - Zoom.

Fully Online Classes (Flexible Schedule)

Tools: CANVAS
Location: 100% online (No Live Class Meetings)
Schedule: No required class meeting times. Complete coursework on your own schedule while meeting course deadlines and assignment requirements.

How to Register: Use MyNOVA (SIS) and search for Mode of Instruction - Online.

  1. Look for section numbers starting with "E" (e.g., E01N).
  2. Course notes will state: "Online course offered by NOVA Online."
