Veterinary Technology Application Requirement

Prerequisite Requirements
Applicants must be a high school graduate or have a General Education Development (GED) certificate, be 18-years or older at the time of application, and successfully complete the following college courses with a letter grade of “C” or better, before applying to the program:
- SDV101 Orientation to Veterinary Technology
- ENG111 College Composition I
- CHM101 Introductory Chemistry or CHM111 General Chemistry (preferred)
- MTH133 Mathematics for Health Professionals or MTH154 Quantitative Reasoning
- VET111 Anatomy and Physiology of Domestic Animals
VET111 is only available at the Loudoun campus and can be completed on-campus or online. There are no transferable substitutions for this course.
General Education Requirements
The required curriculum for Veterinary Technology students includes some general education courses, meaning courses that are not “VET” courses. General education courses are not a requirement for acceptance into our program. However, due to the demanding nature of our program, it is recommended to complete these courses prior to starting the program or during the summer semester while in the program.
Credits from previous college work may be substituted for these general education requirements only after approval. This substitution process is only conducted after admission and enrollment into the program.

Employment Requirements
Students must be gainfully employed before being accepted into the program. All program students are required to maintain employment in an approved veterinary facility for an average of 10 hours per week for the full-time program and 20 hours per week for the part-time program during the school semester. The majority of those hours must be spent as a veterinary assistant working directly with veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians.

After students are accepted into the program, they are program placed and e-mailed instructions of when to register for the veterinary technology-specific (VET) sequence of courses. Below are the course sequences for both the full-time and part-time programs.
