About The Program

Our curriculums can provide students with a broad background or a targeted area in networking technologies, administration, and support. Each program provides course material to prepare for industry certifications like Security+, Linux+, Network+ and CISCO Certified Networking Associate. The program selected determines the certification material that students are exposed to.

Program Degrees and Certificates

Specific program courses provide the knowledge and skills to test for industry certifications. The IET Division strongly recommends that students take a preparatory or review course prior to setting for an exam. Exam fees are not included in the course fees or tuition. Possible industry certifications: CompTIA - Linux+, CompTIA - Network+, CompTIA - Security+, Cisco - Cisco CCNA

Program Details

Are you a big picture person? Maybe Network Administration is the right career for you. Responsible for expanding and maintaining a company's physical network. You will be ensuring that your company stays connected. Throughout the program students will learn to analyze hardware and software, troubleshoot issues and be able to make recommendations for improvements. The network administrator program immerses you in course work that sets you up for 3 industry certifications. Already have certs? Great! We’ll give you credit, reducing your costs and time to completion.

Like to take a focused approach? As a Network Engineering Specialist you are responsible for building and maintaining the daily operation of computer networks that companies and organizations utilize. These networks typically include an intranet, extranet, local area network (LAN), and wide area network (WAN). The program prepares you to optimize WANs through internet access solutions that reduce bandwidth and lower WAN costs, and provide remote access by integrating remote dial-up access with remote LAN to LAN access, as well as supporting higher levels of performance required for new applications such as internet commerce and multimedia. This C.S.C. prepares you to sit for the CISCO Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) certification exam, which opens doors and brings lifelong career opportunities.   • Transfer Opportunities

    Transfer is not the primary purpose of C.S.C. programs. NOVA has articulation agreements that facilitate the transfer of select programs to senior institutions. Students interested in transfer should contact a counselor or their academic advisor early in their program.

  • Credit for Prior Learning

    Northern Virginia Community College accepts industry-standard certifications, credentials and/or professional courses for credit. Broadly, licenses, credentials and/or certifications must be current and valid for consideration. For more information regarding the status of the certification and its eligibility for credit, please see an advisor or faculty members in the discipline area that awards CPL credit.
