About The Program

Contract Management is the process of organizing and managing the life span of a contract, from creation through to completion. The contract manager will supervise the entire process ensuing agreements between vendors, partners, customers, or employees honor the original agreement. This curriculum focuses on students who plan to seek employment in contract management positions and for those presently in contract management positions who seek career advancement.

Program Details

The Contract Management program creates opportunities for students to obtain positions in the federal government or private industry. Students graduating from this program will receive theoretical concepts and practical applications needed for success in the contract management field. Students will gain excellent technical knowledge to become a subject matter expert conveying the appropriate technical and interpersonal skills to perform the job to perfection. Students in the Contract Management program will attain a greater understanding of acquisition, life cycle management, and the contracting processes. Job opportunities will include project manager, procurement analyst, contract administrator, contract specialist, contract negotiator, contract price analyst, and contract termination specialist.

    Transfer is not the primary purpose of this credential; however, NOVA may have agreements that facilitate the transfer of this and other career-oriented programs to selected senior institutions.   • Credit for Prior Learning

    Credit for prior learning (CPL) generally refers to the process of granting college credit for learning gained in nontraditional ways, including but not limited to: certifications, AP or IB exams, military training, or life experience.

  • Career Prospects

    There are about 15,000 positions for Contract Managers/Specialist in the DMV area. Currently, there are 11,512 Contract Managers/Specialist in the Federal Workforce in just the DMV area. The most populous job locations include the District of Columbia, the Pentagon, Crystal City (VA); Fort Belvoir, VA; Alexandria, VA; Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA; Bethesda, MD; Patuxent River, MD. There are thousands more equivalent Contract Managers/Specialist positions in the private sector among major defense contractors and industries that support the federal government in non-defense areas. There are also a few hundred Contract Managers/Specialist positions in the cities and municipalities.
