This program is designed to meet the needs of individuals seeking to further develop skills in acting, directing, arts management, technical theatre, and theatre scholarship.
Students can learn acting, playwriting, improvisation, stage combat, mask, movement, script analysis, theatre history, voice, dance, directing, lighting, sound, costumes, set design, and the business of being in the theatrical profession.

Northern Virginia Community College accepts industry-standard certifications, credentials and/or professional courses for credit. Broadly, licenses, credentials and/or certifications must be current and valid for consideration. For more information regarding the status of the certification and its eligibility for credit, please see an advisor or faculty members in the discipline area that awards CPL credit.
Theatre provides an opportunity to develop practical skills in working with others, decision making, commitment, time management, memorization, and research. Theatre majors develop skills to become actors, stage managers, playwrights, arts administrators, directors, dancers, producers, and costume designers. They also learn a wide range of transferable skills that help them build careers in other fields, as screenwriters, puppeteers, choreographers, lighting designers, sound designers, drama teachers, set designers, and stage technicians.
