Dr. Knights grew up in Western NY and is a product of the SUNY college system. He first received an A.S. in Plant Biotechnology from Alfred State College in Alfred, NY and then his B.S. in Biology/Recombinant Gene Technology from SUNY Fredonia in Fredonia, NY. For his graduate work Dr. Knights attended the University at Buffalo and received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry working at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. Following his doctoral work, he began his post-doctoral fellow in the Dept of Dermatology at Oregon Health Science University and then most recently at the Lombardi Cancer Center at Georgetown University.
Dr. Knights started his career in higher education as a Professor in Biology at Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria Campus (NOVA-AL) where he served as the Assistant Division Dean of biological, natural and environmental sciences. Dr. Knights served as the Interim Dean for the Division of Science, Technology and Business at NOVA-AL and is now the Dean of the Mathematics, Science and Engineering Division at NOVA-AL. As Interim Director for SySTEMic Solutions and as an Academic Dean he has been responsible for forging partnerships with 4-year universities, school districts, community organizations and employers to advocate the value and quality of NOVA and establish mutually beneficial partnerships in support of NOVA and the community it serves.
