Many of the community service opportunities offered at NOVA are organized and managed by our student organizations.
The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society organizes several community service projects including:
- Adopt-a-Block Cleanup Programs
- Hearts and Hammers Home/Landscaping Renovations
- Books for Africa Textbook Drives
- Recycling Projects
- Relay for Life Fundraiser and Rally (American Cancer Society)
- Secret Santa Gift Donations
The Student Government Association and the Student Ambassador Club organize community service projects including:
- Inova Blood Donor Drives
- Canned Food Drives
- Voter Registration Drives
- Nursing Home Visits
The Student Ambassador Program trains students to assist new and current students in the admissions and registration process, represent the College in area high school outreach efforts and college fairs, provide campus tours to visiting high school students, and participate in focus groups and panels. Student Ambassadors receive compensation, but are also expected to perform volunteer hours. For more information or to obtain an application form, visit the Academic Center for Excellence.
This fall, Student Life hosted a Community Volunteer Fair. A variety of non-profit organizations from the surrounding DC/Northern Virginia area participated. If you were not able to make the event, you can still get involved! Check out our community volunteer booklet to learn more about local volunteer opportunities available.
