Message from the President's Office - Annandale Closure (March 13)

UPDATED MARCH 13, 2020 at 2:30PM

Dear NOVA Community,

I wanted to provide an update to yesterday’s announcement of a possible COVID-19 exposure on our Annandale campus. The individual has tested negative for the virus, and I know you join me in wishing the individual and their family peace after this period of difficult uncertainty.

Our Office of Emergency Management team is now notifying those who came into contact with the individual to share this welcome news.

As I shared previously, because the health and well-being of our community is our first concern, we erred on the side of caution, closing and deep-cleaning our Annandale campus over the past two days. It is ready to reopen on Monday to faculty and staff who are returning to prepare for remote delivery of courses and services.

Please know that NOVA will continue put the health and welfare of our college community first.

Do not hesitate to reach out to our Office of Emergency Management (OEM@nvcc.edu) or me with any questions.

Sincerely,

Anne

ORIGINAL MESSAGE FROM MARCH 12, 2020 at 10:30AM

Dear NOVA Community,

An individual teaching one class at the Annandale campus has reported contact while out of the country with others who have since tested positive for COVID-19.

The individual has been tested for the virus and is awaiting results. Our Office of Emergency Management team is in contact with local health officials and the individual, who is under self-quarantine pending the results of the test.

Out of an abundance of caution and care and concern for the health and welfare of our college community, NOVA took the following steps today:

  • Notifying all students who attended the class before spring break.
  • Notifying coworkers who might have come in contact with the individual before spring break.
  • Closed our Annandale campus immediately for the remainder of the week for a deep cleaning in accordance with CDC guidelines.

As the situation develops, I will keep you informed. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our Office of Emergency Management (OEM@nvcc.edu) or me with any questions.

Sincerely,

Dr. Anne Kress,
President
