Academic advising is important at NOVA. Academic advising helps students to meet their educational objectives. Counselors and advisors help students define goals through student development instruction, academic advising, personal counseling, and programming. Mental health counseling and therapy are not provided by College staff; however, referrals can be made within the local community.

NOVA's Adult Career Pathways (ACP) program helps adults to navigate pathways to successful careers. ACP offers adult students a structured support system that is designed specifically to assist with navigating the unique challenges that adults face while attending college. Participants receive support and guidance throughout their college experiences. ACP creates a pathway for adult learners to earn a certificate, associate's degree, or other industry credentials that may help them secure a better job with a path toward advancement and greater economic security.
The Honors Program provides a comprehensive, educational experience for Honors students and allows them to interact as a community of learners. Learn more about how to qualify for and join this program to support academic success.
The NOVA Libraries strive to offer excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff and the community. NOVA libraries provide access to a vast collection of materials in a variety of print, audio-visual, and electronic formats that support the curriculum of each discipline, college programs, and popular interests. In addition, libraries provide individual and group instruction in the identification, use, and evaluation of information resources to enhance teaching, research, and lifelong learning.
The Student Services unit supports programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing student access and student success, programmatic development and outreach to external partners. It is committed to promoting excellence and greater opportunities for students, faculty and staff.
Testing Centers provide a wide range of testing and proctoring services to students. In order to provide students with the best possible experience, students must come prepared and arrive early to allow enough time to complete each test.

Financial Support Services
NOVA’s scholarships, grants, loans and work-study opportunities can make the college education more affordable than you ever.
NOVA's Financial Stability Program (FSP) provides personalized, non-academic services that focuses on building holistic students by providing them with financial coaching, emergency assistance and access to community resources.
The Student Emergency Grant program is available to provide one-time financial assistance to students experiencing an enrollment-threatening financial emergency. Emergency funds are for sudden, unexpected or unforeseen circumstances, which require immediate assistance that affect a student’s ability to remain enrolled at NOVA. These funds will not be allocated to pay for routine education expenses.

Health, Safety and Well-being
NOVA cares about the health of all our students and their academic success. The College does not have a health center on campus, however, here are some resources you may find helpful if you find yourself in need of any mental, emotional or physical care.

The safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors at NOVA is a top priority. We want to create and maintain a safe, secure environment where learning can flourish. Each campus is staffed with police and public safety officials, emergency preparedness plans and a system for notifying students of campus closures due to inclement weather or other safety issues.
NOVA Police are dedicated to providing the highest level of professional and police services to the NOVA community to support NOVA’s educational mission with safe and secure campus environments. Our mission to provide police services that respond to community needs in a prompt, appropriate and respectful manner.
The NOVACares Office provides assistance, resources and interventions to members of the NOVA community. Through the use of our NOVACares on-line reporting system, we encourage a "See Something - Say Something" approach to campus safety, meeting the requirements of federal and state laws, as well as VCCS policy to help prevent campus-based violence. The NOVACares Office strives to support students, faculty and staff with a wide range of on-campus and off-campus resources. It also provides education and training on multiple topics including crisis management, classroom management, stress, grief and healthy lifestyles.
