Northern Virginia Community College presents the Finale of NOVA Idol

After 15 years of successfully showcasing phenomenal student talent, NOVA Idol 2018 returns to host the annual production’s finale of strong vocalists from all six campuses of Northern Virginia Community College.  NOVA Idol 2018 will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, April 20 at the Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center at the Annandale Campus, 8333 Little River Turnpike, Annandale.

Throughout the fall 2017 semester, judges arranged auditions for NOVA students in an effort to find contestants with multiple talents including singing, dancing, storytelling, drama, gymnastics, juggling and other skills. This year’s show will include 13 finalists who will display a variety of acts to be judged.

NOVA Idol started as a small talent show in a classroom on NOVA’s Alexandria Campus and has grown into a popular event over the past 15 years. Although a lot has changed over the years, the program is still student-focused and is aimed to give students the opportunity to develop their talents and recognize their excellence at the campus and community levels. NOVA Idol participants will have the opportunity to practice their performance skills, get objective and supportive feedback from professional educators and musicians and share their talents with classmates and neighbors.

"A lot of our past performers have gone on to do great things," said NOVA-Alexandria Assistant Dean of Communications Studies and Theatre Dr. Brenda Holmes. “NOVA Idol is committed to actively raising the quality of life for every contestant. We want all the contestants to reach their full potential and our task is to make it possible. Our mission is to provide arenas for students of all ages to demonstrate a skill or talent of their choice.”

The winners of the 2018 NOVA Idol will receive cash prizes between $1,000 and $4,000. The community is invited to join NOVA as they decide which talented individuals will be worthy of the grand prizes. NOVA Idol is free and open to the public.
