Honoring Those Who Serve

Military Appreciation, Career and Resource Fair at NOVA

WOODBRIDGE, Va. (Oct. 29, 2018) -- Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) welcomes the local veteran community to Military Appreciation, Career and Resource Fair on November 6, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Woodbridge Campus. The event will honor active duty and veteran service members and their families and connect them with valuable career and support resources.

Thirty local employers are taking part in the career fair, highlighting employment opportunities available for veterans and their spouses. The employers attending include Perpecta, Dominion Energy, William Hazel, Wegmans, Manpower, St. Michaels, Veteran Affairs Office of Information Technology, Prince William County Police, Fairfax County Public Schools, FDM Group, VDOT, Metro, Micron, and more. Several veteran service organizations including Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the American Legion, Marine for Life, and other state veteran support services will be on hand to share information and resources available for the military community.

“We are looking forward to this opportunity to honor our military and their families and thank them for their service,” says NOVA event organizer Vonzell Mattocks. “We have some great employers attending who are eager to hire our vets and their spouses. We are grateful to these organizations for their participation and for the opportunities they are extending to our veteran community.” As part of the career resources available, attendees can take a class on how to use LinkedIn, the social network designed to connect career professionals and a popular resource for job seekers; they will also have the opportunity to get a professional photo taken to use on their LinkedIn profile.

The guest of honor for the event will be CSM Victor Angry, former Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army National Guard. The event will feature a color ceremony, light refreshments, and a performance by Master Sergeant Caleb Bernard Green III, a solo vocalist with the United States Army Band. An accomplished performer, particularly of the U.S. national anthem, Sergeant Green is often called upon to sing at important sporting events, diplomatic functions, and military ceremonies.

NOVA’s Office of Military and Veteran Services and/or Student Life host and contribute annually to this event. The event is free for the military community and those interested can register on the website.
