NOVA and Radford University sign guaranteed transfer partnership agreement

In an effort to strengthen its existing collaborative relationship, Northern Virginia Community College President Scott Ralls and Radford University President Brian O. Hemphill signed a Guaranteed Transfer Partnership Agreement during a ceremony at NOVA’s Annandale Campus on Aug. 28. The agreement outlines the foundation of the partnership designed to facilitate the seamless transfer of NOVA graduates to Radford University.

“This is a historic, monumental day for NOVA,” Ralls said. “We’re committing to ourselves that we’re going to, not only have guaranteed admissions, but with select institutions that are willing to step up like Radford, we’re going to be guaranteed transfer partners. That means we’re going to be working with each other to make sure we’re collectively looking at the pathways to transfer and making sure that the courses we’re advising our students to take will transfer to other universities. We appreciate Radford for being a leader as our first guaranteed transfer partner.”

The Guaranteed Partnership Agreement describes the curricular benefits that exceed those included in the existing agreement between the two institutions and further explains the terms that ensure all courses transcripted by NOVA and described in a NOVA-RU Curriculum Pathway transfer fully to meet degree requirements in a baccalaureate program at Radford University.

“We are excited about this first-of-its-kind partnership in Virginia. We are mindful that the increasing cost of higher education is at the forefront for our students and their families,” Hemphill said. “This agreement will establish a truly seamless transfer process for NOVA students to Radford, knowing that every course they take in approved programs will count for full credit in transferring into an approved Radford program. This will save those students valuable money and time in their hard work to obtain their undergraduate degrees.”

The ceremony was attended by administration from NOVA and Radford who all celebrated the chance to continue to work with each other to ensure opportunities and alleviate the transfer process for NOVA students and graduates who are considering continuing their education at Radford.

During the ceremony, Ralls and Hemphill exchanged gifts and signed the agreement – further solidifying the partnership between the two higher education institutions. After the ceremony, representatives from Radford University visited the Mark R. Warner Student Services Building to meet with prospective transfer students.

NOVA currently has Guaranteed Admissions Agreements with more than 30 colleges and universities. While these agreements guarantee NOVA students will be admitted to these higher education institutions, they do not guarantee that all of the students’ credits will transfer. Radford is the first university to commit to a Guaranteed Transfer Partnership with NOVA.
