Northern Virginia Community College’s Woodbridge Campus will host its annual Open House for first-year students and parents on Saturday, August 20, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., 2645 College Drive in Woodbridge.
First-year students will have the opportunity to attend brief workshops and participate in a variety of activities and information sessions that include guaranteed admissions, learning technology, career and employment services and how to select a major. A workshop will also be available for parents to learn ways to effectively “parent” a NOVA student. Eager first-year students will have a chance to discover life as a college student by also participating in a mock first-day college classroom experience.
In addition to the variety of courses you would expect to find at a world-class college like English, Math, Science and Foreign Language, NOVA’s Woodbridge Campus offers distinctive programs including Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Massage Therapy, Film and Photography, Web Development and English as a Second Language (ESL) as well as many other degree and certificate programs.
The Regional Center for Workforce Education and Training (RCWET), the first facility of its kind to offer a local solution for highly-specialized continuing professional education, is also located on the Woodbridge Campus. The 55,000 square-foot state-of-the-art building serves as the epicenter of high-quality training and education delivery in the region. Training programs include Cybersecurity, Healthcare, IT and Program Management. The Regional Center also houses a Professional Testing Center and 7,500 square-foot conference center designed to host a variety of events from industrial-type training, exhibits, trade shows, formal gatherings and special events. There is also a state-of-the-art “Cyber Range” that will allow NOVA to provide real-time, simulations of network attacks to train students to recognize and defend assets, as well as assess and certify hard skills competencies.
As a reminder, First-Year Student Open House is not replacing a student orientation session. Individuals who have not already attended orientation are welcome to attend the event, however, they are required to complete an orientation session prior to registering for fall classes. Student check-in for Open House will be held in the cafeteria of the Arts and Science Building (WAS).
