Paintings by Debra Keirce at NOVA-Manassas

Jungle Out There
Defying Gravity

Paintings by Ashburn-resident Debra Keirce will be on exhibition at the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College from Nov. 16 to Dec. 21.

Keirce is a contemporary American realist painter. Her paintings tell stories of joy, desire, challenge and encouragement. Keirce creates much of her artwork as miniatures which are paintings smaller than 25 square inches.

“Everything in a miniature is smaller than one-sixth the size it would be in reality but if you magnify the miniature 10 times or more, it still looks like a painting you would hang above your mantel,” she said. “For collectors, this means they have a work of original art that invites them to pick it up, hold it and look closer, a much more intimate viewing experience.”

Originally from Detroit, Keirce earned a degree in biochemical engineering and worked as a corporate engineer at pharmaceutical facilities for 15 years. Many of her paintings are influenced by time spent in mazes of pipes, tanks and equipment.

Keirce is a signature member of the Miniature Artists of America; the Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington. D.C.; World Federation of Miniaturists; Cider Painters of America; and the Hilliard Society in Wells, England. She is also a juried member of the International Guild of Realism and an Art Renewal Center Living Artist.

Keirce will discuss her art during a reception on Wednesday, Nov. 30 from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Colgan Gallery on the first floor of Colgan Hall. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.

Colgan Gallery is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. To learn more, contact Art Professor Rosemary Gallick at rgallick@nvcc.edu.
