As part of International Education Week, Student Life and the International Education Week committee at Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria Campus will host NOVA Gives Back – a community service project where faculty, staff, students and other community volunteers will package 1,000 meals for the homeless in New York. The project will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 in the Bisdorf Building cafeteria.
NOVA Gives Back will be in support of For the Love of Others, LLC an organization that works to help people of all backgrounds by providing opportunities. The packages that will be prepared during NOVA Gives Back will go toward For the Love of Others’ 30K by 30 campaign, where the members of the organization are trying to help 30,000 people in need by the time the founder of the organization turned 30 years old.
NOVA Gives Back is one of many events planned throughout the week of Nov. 14-18 for International Education Week. The theme for this year’s festivities is “Going Global.” The Alexandria Campus will also host an open mic event, digital media contest, video game tournaments and a documentary viewing. At each event, students and volunteers will have the opportunity to donate nonperishable items that will be packaged for NOVA Gives Back at the end of the week. For additional information on these events, visit the event website.
