Northern Virginia Community College’s Adult Career Pathways (ACP) program will partner with Hopkins House’s Early Childhood Learning Institute for an open house event at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9 at McNeil Preschool Academy, 8543 Forest Place, Alexandria, VA 22309.
ACP and ECLI are working together to provide comprehensive support to individuals studying early childhood development. Together, ACP and ECLI will promote Hopkins House and NOVA programs that assist and support adult students seeking to advance their current careers and earn a college degree.
During the open house, participants will learn more about the partnership between Hopkins House and the ACP program and NOVA’s Career Studies Certificate & Early Childhood Development Certificate. Support provided by the two programs includes:
- free childcare during classes with prior RSVP
- assistance with financial aid and scholarships
- textbooks included, one-on-one academic advising
- connections to employers and internships and continued support moving on to an associate degree at NOVA and applying to transfer to a four-year university.
ACP and Hopkins House invite the community, those interested in working in early childhood development and people already working in the field who are looking to take the next step in their careers. The two programs also encourage those interested to bring their children to the open house for fun activities with Hopkins House and NOVA staff.
Hopkins House began in 1939 after a group of teachers decided to volunteer their time and homes to continue providing childcare for working parents when President Franklin D. Roosevelt began cutting federal funding for social programs for the poor. ECLI encourages and supports adults in their journey to earn professional credentials and college credits in early childhood education. The ACP program provides adult students with a support system designed to assist them in navigating the unique challenges they face while attending college.
