Northern Virginia Community College appoints new provost for the Loudoun Campus

Northern Virginia Community College appointed Julie Leidig as the new provost of the Loudoun Campus, effective July 30. The provost is the chief operating officer of the campus, responsible for all academic and student services, as well as management of all campus operations.

“Dr. Leidig’s expertise and strong leadership in higher education will be a valuable addition to NOVA,” said NOVA President Robert G. Templin Jr., “We look forward to welcoming her as a member of our administration.”

Leidig comes to NOVA after completing her sixth year as vice president for instruction at Lone Star College Montgomery, one of five colleges in the rapidly growing Lone Star College System in suburban Houston. At Lone Star, she was responsible for all credit and non-credit instruction, workforce education, continuing education, library services, instructional support, professional development, and school partnerships.

Prior to that position, Leidig had a leadership role at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in Austin for eight years, where she was in charge of academic issues for the state’s 90 community and technical college campuses. In that capacity she was instrumental in the development of the statewide transferable core curriculum and in common course databases for both transfer and workforce education.

Originally from Chicago, Leidig obtained her doctorate in educational administration and community college leadership from the University of Texas at Austin. She also holds a Master of Arts in foreign language, and a Master of Education in adult education and human resource development. She received her bachelor’s degree in political science from Syracuse University.

NOVA’s Loudoun Campus serves more than 10,000 students annually in credit programs and 5,000 in non-credit programs in a variety of academic and continuing education classes on its main campus and on two off-campus sites at Signal Hill and in Reston.

Northern Virginia Community College is the largest institution of higher education in the Commonwealth of Virginia and one of America's largest community colleges. NOVA enrolls more than 75,000 students at its six campuses in Alexandria, Annandale, Loudoun, Manassas, Springfield and Woodbridge, and through NOVA Online.
