NOVA Lacrosse Inks Stonewall Jackson Lacrosse Standout John Ross

June 7, 2012

John Ross

NOVA men’s lacrosse coach Tony LePore announced that former Stonewall Jackson High School standout John Ross has signed a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Letter of Intent. Ross becomes the second lacrosse prospect to sign with NOVA’s new NJCAA program and joins Hayfield Secondary School standout Terry Yarbrough in NOVA’s inaugural recruiting class.

Ross, from Manassas, Va., was a two-year starter for the Stonewall Jackson Raiders varsity lacrosse program. As a senior, Ross scored 23 goals and distributed six assists earning himself First Team All- District Honors in the Cedar Run District.

As a junior, Ross scored 21 goals and handed out six assists helping his team to the 2011 Cedar Run District Tournament championship and earning Second Team All-District honors.

Aside from being a varsity lacrosse athlete at Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas, Va., Ross was an International Baccalaureate (I.B.) student and I.B. Honors Candidate, an I.B. teaching assistant, a new student mentor, and a member of the Ecology Club.

"I’m excited to play at a higher level of the sport under Coach LePore’s leadership with the other talented players on the team next year,” said Ross. “I decided to attend NOVA for several reasons. First, to earn an associate degree in engineering so I am prepared to transfer to a university majoring in biomedical engineering. Secondly, I want to continue to play lacrosse with a goal of transferring to a NCAA Division I program."

Northern Virginia Community College has competed as an independent club level for the past three seasons. In the 2012-13 season NOVA will become full members of the NJCAA and eligible to compete for regional and national championships and other academic and athletic awards.
