Project Management Certificate at NOVA-Manassas

January 19, 2011

The Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College is offering a new non-credit program in project management.

The Project Management Certificate program uses the latest version of the Project Management Institute’s Body of Knowledge. Students will learn about the five basic process groups:  initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing. The program covers planning, integration management, scope management, time management, cost management, quality management, human resource management, communication management, risk management and procurement management.

The first course in the program, “Fundamentals of Project Management,” reviews the standard phases of a project, explains terminology used in project management and covers the set of processes used by project management professionals for projects of all sizes. Participants will also review effective strategies to lead a project team and manage a project using proven methods and tools.

Michael Van Dyke, a certified Project Management Professional with more than 25 years of experience, will teach “Fundamentals of Project Management” twice this spring. The first session is scheduled for Feb. 3 and 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The second session will be offered on April 30 and May 7 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuition for either session is $535.

Students must complete six courses and pass a test to earn the certificate. Additional courses in the program will be offered later this year. The Project Management Certificate program is approved for VA benefits. To learn more, go to www.nvcc.edu/wdce/pwregional or call 703-257-6590.
