The Annandale Campus hosted the NOVA Police Department’s inaugural 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament on Friday, May 13. The tournament was organized by NOVA Police Community Outreach Office Tony Ong (AL) as an opportunity for faculty, staff and police officers to get together while spending time with students.

Three divisions were created – police, faculty and staff, and students – and each division had enough participants to create two teams. Ong was captain for the police, Dean of Students Athos Brewer (AN) was the captain for faculty and staff, and Student Activities Coordinator Michelle Green (AN) was captain for the students.

All players were pumped up with a practice session prior to the first game for which Annandale’s Audiovisual Specialist Larry Harris served as deejay. The games were played at half court which proved entertaining for the fans who came out to root on their favorite team. For the first several rounds, the first team to score 15 points and lead by two automatically moved to the next round. After multiple close games, the student and faculty and staff teams played in the final round, with the students winning 21-19. This year’s winners received a plaque from the Police Department.

The tournament was a hit with the NOVA students as well as staff who attended and participated. The goal is to turn the tournament into a charity event.
