NOVA-Manassas announces schedule change - Campus closing to accommodate Civil War commemoration
July 11, 2011
The Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College will be closed from noon on Wednesday, July 20 through Sunday, July 24 to accommodate Civil War anniversary events scheduled near the Campus.
All campus activities and services are cancelled for this period. The closure also applies to NOVA’s Innovation Park Center. Workforce Development programs, services and activities have been rescheduled. Faculty, staff and students will not have access to the Manassas Campus and NOVA parking permits will not be valid during the closure.
Instruction will continue online or through previously arranged alternative assignments, and students may use services at other NOVA campuses during the closure. Many transactions, such as registering for classes, purchasing parking permits and ordering books, can be completed on NOVA’s website.
The campus will reopen at 6 a.m. on Monday, July 25 for regularly scheduled classes, activities and services.
Because the Manassas Campus is adjacent to the Manassas National Battlefield Park, event organizers requested the use of NOVA’s parking lots and grounds to support the large number of visitors expected for the commemoration.
“Although we are reluctant to disrupt our summer session, we recognize the historic nature of this event and want to be good neighbors. We believe the decision to close is in the best interest of our students, employees and the community,” Provost Hortense Hinton said.
