Tony LePore named new NOVA lacrosse head coach

September 8, 2011

Tony Lepore

Northern Virginia Community College has named Anthony LePore the new head coach of the men’s lacrosse program.

LePore comes to NOVA after spending the last 10 years coaching at Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas. He will continue as a social studies teacher at Stonewall Jackson.

"I am very thankful for this opportunity and I look forward to coaching these student-athletes at the collegiate level,” said LePore. “My time coaching at Stonewall was special and I deeply appreciate all the support I have received over the years. However, I am very excited about this next challenge.”

During his time at Stonewall, LePore guided the lacrosse team to two district championships and six regional playoff berths. LePore coached the program’s first All-Americans and numerous of his players have gone on to play lacrosse at the NCAA level. The News & Messenger named LePore the boy’s lacrosse all-area Coach of the Year.

“We are thrilled to attract a candidate with the credentials of Coach LePore,” said Brian Anweiler, college-wide student activities coordinator. “He is a talented coach with a proven ability to place students at the four-year college level. I am confident he will attract the region’s talented student-athletes to NOVA.”

LePore played collegiate lacrosse at The Citadel from 1996 to 1999. He then played at The State University of New York at Geneseo from 1999 to 2000 while earning a graduate degree in secondary education. Originally from Rochester, N.Y., LePore currently resides in Manassas.

LePore replaces Matt Blamey, NOVA’s first head coach, who resigned in early August to become assistant coach at Sonoma State University in Calif.

NOVA recently transitioned from club sports to intercollegiate status with membership in the National Junior College Athletic Association. To learn more, go to http://www.njcaa.org/.
