Active Shooter Exercise at Northern Virginia Community College

What
On Dec. 28, emergency responders will conduct an Active Shooter Exercise at the Annandale Campus of Northern Virginia Community College. Almost 200 participants are expected.

Background
The event is intended to enhance NOVA’s public safety abilities and Fairfax County’s response to NOVA should an incident occur. Scheduled during NOVA’s winter break, the drill has been in the planning stages for several months. Participating agencies include NOVA Police, NOVA Emergency Management and Planning, Virginia Department of Emergency Management, Virginia State Police, Fairfax County Police, and Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. In addition, a large group of volunteers will participate as “role players.” Multiple safety protocols, based on Department of Homeland Security standards and best practices, will be in place. Many pieces of emergency equipment will be on campus.
