NOVA-Loudoun Waddell Gallery to display Artemis Herber’s Spheres

The Waddell Art Gallery at Northern Virginia Community College’s Loudoun Campus will welcome the art exhibition Spheres by Artemis Herber. The exhibit will be on display from Jan. 8 through Feb. 9, 2018, at the gallery, located at 21200 Campus Drive, Sterling, Va.

General meeting of NOVA College Board to be held Nov. 13

The Northern Virginia Community College Board will meet on Monday, Nov. 13, from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. at the Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center’s President’s Dining Room on NOVA’s Annandale Campus, 8333 Little River Turnpike, Annandale. Committee meetings will be held from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in Seminar Rooms B, C and D.

Artist transforms subconscious to conscious in new Fisher Gallery art show

The Margaret W. and Joseph L. Fisher Art Gallery at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center at Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria Campus welcomes the unique artwork of regional artist Kyujin Lee whose show Past Control, Pest Control will be on display from Nov. 10, 2017 to Jan. 15, 2018. An artist’s reception is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11.

NOVA-Woodbridge to host An Evening with Edgar Allen Poe

The NOVA Players of Northern Virginia Community College’s Woodbridge Campus will host the theatrical production of “An Evening with Edgar Allen Poe,” at the NOVA-Woodbridge Black Box Theatre, 2645 College Drive. Show dates are Oct. 26-28 and Nov. 2-5 at 7 p.m., with matinees Oct. 26 at 10 a.m. and Nov. 5 at 3 p.m.

NOVA-Loudoun to host the annual NOVA STEM Day Loudoun County, Sat., Sept. 30

Northern Virginia Community College will host its annual NOVA STEM Day-Loudoun County on Saturday, Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at NOVA’s Loudoun Campus, 21200 Campus Drive, Sterling, Virginia. This is a free, fun, family-friendly event showcasing science, technology, engineering and math activities. The day is filled with hands-on robotic and coding activities for kids and adults of all ages.

The Waddell Art Gallery at Northern Virginia Community College’s Loudoun Campus will welcome the art exhibition Sequence by Jessica Gardner. The exhibit will be on display from Sept. 25 through Oct. 27, with a Gallery Talk at 11 a.m. on Oct. 26. The gallery is located at 21200 Campus Drive, Sterling, Va.

The Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center at Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria Campus will welcome the art exhibition Quieting Change, Stilling Motion by Regina Miele to its Forum Gallery from Sept. 22 to Nov. 5. NOVA and Radford University to sign Guaranteed Transfer Partnership Agreement

Northern Virginia Community College President Scott Ralls and Radford University President Brian O. Hemphill will sign a Guaranteed Transfer Partnership Agreement between the two institutions in an effort to strengthen their ongoing partnership. The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28 in the President’s Dining Room in the Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center at NOVA’s Annandale Campus, 8333 Little River Turnpike, Annandale, VA 22003.

NOVA-AN to host eclipse viewing event, Aug. 21

The Math, Science, and Engineering Division at Northern Virginia Community College’s Annandale Campus will host an eclipse viewing event on Aug. 21, NOVA’s first day of fall classes. A variety of activities will be offered at “NOVA Eclipse Mania 2017” between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. in front of the CS Building.

NOVA Educational Foundation to host annual dinner, welcome new officers

The Northern Virginia Community College Educational Foundation will host its 21st Annual Dinner on Wed., Sept. 13, beginning with cocktails at 6 p.m. and the dinner and program beginning at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the Hilton McLean Tyson’s Corner, 7920 Jones Branch Road, McLean, Va.

The Verizon Gallery at the Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center on Northern Virginia Community College’s Annandale Campus is displaying the photography series Chroma Visions by local photographer Richard Paul Weiblinger. The show will be open from July 8 to August 27.

NOVA faculty, friends of music department to perform ‘L’histoire du Soldat’

Northern Virginia Community College’s music department will put on a recital where they will perform Igor Stravinsky’s L’histoire du Soldat (The Soldier’s Tale) at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 29 at the Richard J. Fisher Gallery to display artwork by regional artist Wayson R. Jones

The Margaret W. & Joseph L. Fisher Art Gallery at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center located at Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria Campus will display a unique series of acrylic portrait paintings by artist Wayson R. Jones. The show, Memory, Mostly Self, will be on display in the gallery from June 9 to July 30 with an opening reception scheduled for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 8.

The Northern Virginia Community College Board will meet in executive session on Monday, May 1, at 4 p.m. to conduct the annual evaluation of the college’s president. The meeting will be held in the Brault Building on NOVA’s Annandale Campus, 4001 Wakefield Chapel Road, Annandale.

South Korean artist to visit NOVA-Manassas Thursday

On April 13 at noon, South Korean artist Ja-Young Ku will discuss his latest work at the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College. Ku is an associate professor of contemporary arts at Konkuk University in Seoul, South Korea. He is currently at Duke University as a Visiting Fulbright Scholar.

Georgian ambassador to visit NOVA-Manassas April 12

On April 12, David Bakradze, Georgia’s ambassador to the United States, will present “Georgian Success Story” the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College. Business Professor Frank Ferrara invited Ambassador Bakradze to the campus as part of the international speakers series he created to expose students to experiences that promote an understanding of foreign relations.

General meeting of NOVA College Board rescheduled for March 20

The meeting of the Northern Virginia Community College Board, originally scheduled for this evening has been rescheduled due to inclement weather. The new date will be Monday, March 20, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. The meeting will be held at NOVA’s Manassas Campus Battleview Building, Rooms 223-227, 10500 Battleview Parkway, Manassas.

One of the most common interactions citizens have with law enforcement officers is the traffic stop. Citizens and police often have diverging mindsets and assumptions during these situations. For instance, citizens may wonder if they are being profiled; they may view the stop as a personal affront or as an inconvenience; they may feel embarrassed; and may be worried about court costs and higher insurance rates.

Sen. Tim Kaine to deliver commencement address at NOVA’s 51st Graduation Ceremony, May 14 at Jiffy Lube Live

United States Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) will deliver the commencement address for Northern Virginia Community College’s Spring 2017 Commencement. Kaine has been a friend to NOVA and to higher education in general. NOVA’s 51st Commencement ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 14 at 3 p.m. at Jiffy Lube Live, 7800 Cellar Door Dr., Bristow, Va. More than 7,600 NOVA students will graduate.

SkillsUSA high school competition at NOVA-Manassas

On Wednesday, March 8, the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College will host the regional SkillsUSA high school competition in automotive technology and maintenance. Students from C.D. Hylton Senior High School, Osbourn High School, Spotsylvania Career and Technical Center, Northern Neck Technical Center and other local schools are expected. The best time for interviews and photos is between 9:30 a.m. and noon.

NOVA’s Medical Education Campus to host Mission of Mercy, March 10 and 11

The Medical Education Campus of Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) will once again partner with the Northern Virginia Dental Society to provide free dental services for low-income residents of Northern Virginia. Mission of Mercy, also known as "M.O.M.," is a two-day annual event that offers high-quality dental care to 700 to 1,000 local patients between Friday and Saturday.

Hungarian ambassador to visit NOVA-Manassas Wednesday

On Wednesday, Dr. Réka Szemerkényi, Hungary’s ambassador to the United States, will discuss her country at the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College. Business Professor Frank Ferrara organized the presentation to give students the opportunity to learn about Hungary and foreign relations.
