NOVA to rename Loudoun Campus Higher Education Center after Robert G. Templin, Jr.

The Higher Education Center on Northern Virginia Community College’s Loudoun Campus soon will celebrate its first anniversary. In addition, the newest building on the Loudoun Campus will also get a new name. Commonly called by its acronym, HEC, it will soon be known  as the Robert G. Templin, Jr. Higher Education Center in honor of NOVA’s fourth president. The renaming ceremony will be held on Thursday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. until Noon in Room 203 of the HEC Building, 21200 Campus Drive, Sterling, Va. Dr. Templin, members of his family, decade’s worth of colleagues and friends and former coworkers from NOVA will be on hand for the event.
The ribbon was cut on HEC on Sept. 24, 2015. It now houses new faculty offices, IT and facilities staff offices, a Communication Center, an Information Technology Networking Lab, a recording technology studio as well as general classrooms and an event space for lectures and conferences.
The 41,000 square foot facility is LEED Certified Silver and contains energy saving features such as directional outdoor lightning, occupancy sensors for lighting control, LED lights and a geothermal system to provide heating and cooling. It also has a green roof and rain gardens to reduce rain run-off and a white roof to reflect heat.
In March 2016, NOVA’s College Board strongly recommended and approved the naming of the building after Former President Bob Templin in recognition of his 12-and-a-half years of dedicated service to NOVA.
This event is open to the public. Free parking is available in the B-2 Parking Lot near the Route 7 side of the campus.
