High school students to shadow NOVA Loudoun administrators and faculty at Job for a Day, Nov. 16

The Loudoun Campus of Northern Virginia Community College will host local high school juniors and seniors who will be participating in the Job for A Day program, sponsored by the Loudoun School Business Partnership. This is an opportunity for students to see, first-hand, what it is like to have a very fulfilling career in higher education. “Shadow Day” is Wednesday, Nov. 16, and 24 Loudoun County high school students have signed up to shadow positions as diverse as NOVA-LO faculty members, the Financial Aid Director, academic deans, the facilities manager, the campus’ high school outreach specialist and NOVA-Loudoun Provost Dr. Julie Leidig, who serves on the Executive Committee for the School Business Partnership.

“Serving students in higher education is an incredibly gratifying career,” Leidig said. “Particularly working with those in a community college setting where students often are taking classes while working full time, caring for families and/or overcoming other challenges. Not many high school students are aware of all of the work that takes place behind the scenes to deliver an excellent college education.  We hope that this will be an inspiring eye-opener for the students who participate, and that they also have some fun in the process.”

NOVA’s Loudoun Campus provides a variety of academic programs, workforce development classes, student activities, events and campus facilities to more than 13,000 students each year. Located on 93 acres, the Loudoun Campus consists of eight buildings including the Waddell Theater, Art Gallery and the new Robert G. Templin, Jr. Higher Education Center. The campus features state-of-the-art science and computer labs, a high-tech music recording studio, a veterinary teaching hospital, a commercial grade greenhouse and an interior design resource library.
