On April 20, NOVA-Manassas will celebrate National DNA Day. At 11 a.m., Kirk Odom will speak in Colgan Theater. Odom was convicted of a crime he did not commit and spent decades in prison before he was exonerated by DNA evidence. Learn more about Odom athttp://www.innocenceproject.org/cases-false-imprisonment/kirk-odom. From noon to 2 p.m., students will enjoy live music, free food and hands-on DNA activities (molecular gastronomy, GMOs, DNA extractions, DNA candy, face painting, cookie decoration and more). The winners of the DNA art contest will be announced and an iPad will be given away to one participant. National DNA Day commemorates the discovery of the double helix in 1953 and the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003.
On April 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., NOVA-Manassas is hosting STEM Fest. The free event is open to people of all ages who want to learn about science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
