NOVA Police Chief Daniel Dusseau has been chosen for the 2019 Governor’s Honor Award for Administration Excellence.
The Governor’s Honor Awards are the highest recognition for an employee in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Award winners are nominated by their full-time, part-time and wage peers.
“Being recognized for the work of so many at the College is wonderful,” said Chief Dusseau. “This amount of effort and transformation that has occurred is due to many. I am fortunate to receive the award, but I know that it took countless people working every day to get us there. Diligence by the police and emergency management, working across the College with staff and faculty, while receiving the critically important support from the Administrative Council, made it happen.”
The Administration Excellence category of the Governor’s Honor Awards recognizes exceptional contributions in support of the Governor’s plan of building a stronger Virginia. Winners increase efficiencies and alignment, transform the culture of the Commonwealth of Virginia, significantly reduce overhead costs, implement strategic process improvement, and further the Governor’s plan and related objectives.
“Being in the presence of others that had accomplished great things across the State was inspiring,” said Chief Dusseau of the awards ceremony, which was held at the Governor’s Executive Mansion in Richmond, Va. “The Governor, First Lady and all involved were very gracious. Their genuine gratitude, combined with the congratulations received from people at NOVA and elsewhere is appreciated and a testament to what a team can accomplish,” he added.
Chief Dusseau has been with NOVA for nearly a decade, and previously served as Police Commander of the Prince George’s County Police Department for over 20 years.
“Unfortunately, public safety work is never completed,” Chief Dusseau concedes. “There are always new threats and dangers, but with the staff, structure, procedures, and attitude we have established, NOVA is prepared. Because of hard work, commitment and support, NOVA is now also seen as leader in College safety.”
