The Annandale Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa recently received the Distinguished Chapter Officer Team Award while attending the PTK Catalyst 2017 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Alpha Beta Rho Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) at NOVA’s Annandale Campus was recently recognized as one of the top chapter officer teams at the PTK Catalyst 2017 in Nashville, Tennessee, April 6-8.

The Annandale Campus Chapter was one of 30 chapters that received the Distinguished Chapter Officer Team Award. Winners received commemorative medallions and were honored during the Third General Session. Tria Cohen with the PTK Student Engagement Office said this was a huge honor and accomplishment for the Annandale chapter. The Officer Team included NOVA students Zion Faye, Yaeeun Jun, Glody Mbaki and Tho Nguyen.

The student officers provided a presentation entitled “Taking the Lead: Chapter Officer Team Best Practices.” The presentation included advice on developing a strong effective officer team, teamwork, planning meetings, project development, goal setting and promoting the chapter.

According to the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Distinguished Chapter Officer Teams must be nominated by their chapter advisers through the Hallmark Awards application process. They’re chosen based on a number of criteria including the team’s demonstration of teamwork, leadership abilities and promotion of the Honors in Action. They are selected by a panel of judges from more than 190 nominees internationally.

The mission of Phi Theta Kappa is “to recognize academic achievement of college students and to provide opportunities for them to grow as scholars and leaders.” The organization informs and helps students with scholarship opportunities, writes letters of recommendation, provides online courses to assist in building skills employers want and helps create and foster friendships and connections through the organization.
