A Seminar for Community Colleges

October 20 - 23, 2017

Community colleges are working to promote the understanding of issues that have a global impact including those dealing with conflict, violence, war and the efforts to build peaceful and sustainable communities. In order to meet the above objective and better prepare students for a globalized, ever changing 21st century, the NOVA Institute for Public Service Peace will host the 5th Annual National Community College Peacebuilding Seminar, Teaching about Global Conflict and Peacebuilding: A Seminar for Community Colleges this year from October 20 - 23, 2017.

This seminar is designed to support part- and full-time faculty and administrators as they strive to develop relevant and innovative approaches to teaching about global conflict and peacebuilding. The program seeks to bring together a multidisciplinary array of community college professionals in order to support their efforts with students. Attendees will be learning from Washington, DC, based experts on global conflict and peacebuilding including those from the U.S. government, nongovernmental organizations, international organizations, academics and practitioners about approaches that can be used with students. Themes to be covered will include international law, peace and conflict resolution education, experiential learning, media, dialogue, program development and other areas that will tap the expertise uniquely based in Washington, DC.

Fee

$300

As part of the registration fee, each participant will receive a copy of "Peacebuilding in Community Colleges: A Teaching Resource" published by U.S. Institute of Peace Press and edited by David J. Smith, daily breakfast and lunch and some dinners.
