In the discussion board forum “Calculator Workshops,” write a 200-word paragraph describing what you learned, what you already knew and what you would still like to learn about your calculator. Part II: Search Merlot for “virtual calculators.” Peruse each of the sites and write a review of one of them. Describe what you found useful about the site and how you feel it could be improved. This posting is due by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday of Week 1.
In groups, solve several systems of equations/problems using your calculator. Discuss linear inequalities and learn how to solve single linear inequalities and systems of linear inequalities by hand and on the graphing calculator. Review Merlot sites. Select topics from the list of graphing calculator topics for the online assignment.
Part I: Create a 3-5 minute video using Jing, SnagIt, Captivate or Camtasia on your selected topic. You may use a virtual TI found online to get the image of the calculator or you can upload digital pictures taken of your calculator. If you do not have a microphone, please provide text to go along with your video. Post your video to the discussion board by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday of Week 2.
Part II: View all videos posted by your classmates. Select your favorite and reply to the posting. Explain why it was your favorite. The video selected most often will earn the producer extra credit points and will be showcased at our next face-to-face class and at the math department’s meeting.
