Awards for new and on-going professional development are available to NOVA faculty and staff through the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). Opportunities for developing your professional growth and development through VCCS grants include the following areas:
- Discipline Development: Build knowledge and skills within an academic discipline or professional specialty.
- Instructional Development: Improve classroom teaching, learning, and assessment techniques.
- Career Development: Provide tools for effective personal planning to improve the quality of work and life.
- Organizational Development: Enhance administrative and leadership skills to fulfill the institutional mission of the College.
Faculty may apply individually or collaboratively for time and expenses. The maximum funding for time is eight credits. Most time is funded at four credits. Summer funding for Paul Lee Professional Development Grants is $2,500 (minus FICA). The funds are paid as a stipend and will not become part of an individual's base salary. The VCCS also offers mini-grants up to $1,500 for workshops.
