Employment Resources

The Financial Stability Program does not specialize in career services, resume writing, job placement, and other job preparation services. However, we recognize that finding employment is a helpful remedy to many student’s financial challenges while attending classes. To assist students who need help finding employment, we have a few helpful tips and resources to consider. Please see some resources below:

Work On-Campus If you are eligible for Federal Financial Aid, you may also be eligible for NOVA’s Work Study program, which allows you to earn $10-$11/hour in an on-campus work-study position. Contact your campus Financial Aid Office to apply and visit their website for more information.

College Central Network - Register with NOVA’s College Central Network and get access to a comprehensive suite of job readiness services. Apply directly for internships, jobs, and other opportunities directly through the portal.

NOVA’s Adult Career Pathways Program - The program provides a support system to assist students in earning a certificate, degree or other industry credential that may help them secure a better job with a path toward advancement and/or greater economic security. They assist with resume writing and development, interviewing skills, etc. Contact ACP at acp@nvcc.edu or call 703-425-5245.

Search for Jobs Online – Many local job opportunities can be found by searching online. It is helpful to know important key words for the type of job you are looking for, and the area in which you’d like to work. For example: if you are looking for a receptionist job, try searching the below listed sites with key phrases like “administrative assistant,” “receptionist,” “front desk associate,” “secretary,” etc.

You may also try searching directly for agencies or companies with which you hope to work, and using their website to browse current job openings.
