The Financial Stability Program does not specialize in career services, resume writing, job placement, and other job preparation services. However, we recognize that finding employment is a helpful remedy to many student’s financial challenges while attending classes. To assist students who need help finding employment, we have a few helpful tips and resources to consider. Please see some resources below:
Work On-Campus – If you are eligible for Federal Financial Aid, you may also be eligible for NOVA’s Work-Study program, which allows you to earn $10-$11/hour in an on-campus work-study position. Contact your campus Financial Aid Office to apply and visit their website for more information.
Career Connection – Career Connection provides valuable tools and resources on-demand to assist you to develop your career and find a job or internship opportunity. Using Career Connection you can create resumes and cover letters, with guided hints and templates for all majors; record and review practice interviews that can be forwarded to faculty or advisors for feedback; and search for and apply to jobs and internships directly from Career Connection. Simply sign in using your MyNOVA credentials.
NOVA’s Adult Career Pathways Program – The program provides a support system to assist students in earning a certificate, degree or other industry credentials that may help them secure a better job with a path toward advancement and/or greater economic security. Search for Jobs Online – Many local job opportunities can be found by searching online. It is helpful to know important keywords for the type of job you are looking for and the area in which you’d like to work. For example: if you are looking for a receptionist job, try searching the below-listed sites with key phrases like “administrative assistant,” “receptionist,” “front desk associate,” “secretary,” etc.
