FTP

If you would like to connect to your personal web space from off-campus, you need to use some kind of FTP program. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. There are many FTP products to choose from and many of them are free. Some web editors have FTP capabilities built in. There may already be an FTP program on your computer.

Regardless of which FTP program you use, you will need to know certain information. You need to know:

  1. The name of the server where your website lives.
  2. The name of the folder, or "directory" where the web site is.
  3. Your login and password to access the server.

To get these settings, go to the Help Desk's web site: http://www.nvcc.edu/ithd
