NVTC Transit Fellow Program – apply by March 31

The Northern Virginia Transportation Commission is seeking current or future students with an interest in the transit industry to gain valuable, real-world experience to apply to their Transit Fellow Program.

Based on the interests and experience of the applicant, they will have the opportunity to work closely with NVTC staff within one of their programs: WMATA, Commuter Choice, Transit Resource Center or Transit Technology – or with members of the Communications or Finance & Administration teams.  

Eligibility includes being enrolled or planning to enroll in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in transportation planning, urban and regional planning, public administration, communications, or a related field, as well as an interest in transportation/transit planning, regional coordination, transportation/transit policy, transit technology, data analysis and mapping, communication/marketing, public finance, public administration, program/project management.

Security Clearance Preparedness Program

Gain detailed insights and guidance to gain a better understanding of the clearance process and earn a digital credential/badge upon successful completion of the program! This opportunity is open to students across the state.  Being ready to pass a security clearance check increases the pool of career choices opened to you and this program can give you a head start in the process.  This program is provided by the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative NoVa Node (CCI).

The Northern Virginia Node of the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative invites applications for a full-time, paid, 7-week traineeship program in cybersecurity. Candidates who complete the program will receive a stipend of $7200. The program will be conducted completely ONLINE by Northern Virginia Community College instructors. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens, reside in Virginia, and be available to participate in the program for 7 hours per day, weekdays, June 12 – August 5, 2023, as well as an in-person orientation on June 9, 2023. This program is part of a larger effort to develop data analytics and cybersecurity expertise in the Virginia workforce. CCI Trainees will also receive career placement support from George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College to facilitate connections with cybersecurity companies. No previous experience with cybersecurity, coding, or data analytics is required. Details about the training are to be provided here. For more details, check out the FAQs.

Community College Global Affairs Fellowship

Interested in international affairs and democracy? Do you know or want to learn foreign languages, live abroad, embrace a variety of cultures and diversity, study global issues, be civically engaged, and defend and champion democratic values? You should apply for the Community College Global Affairs Fellowship (CCGAF) - a new paid summer enrichment and mentorship program that seeks to expand access to global education opportunities and international affairs careers to community college, transfer, and non-traditional students. The CCGAF provides skill-building, mentorship and 1:1 coaching, as well as ongoing access to networks and career supports that global affairs students and professionals need to grow in their work, advance to higher levels of leadership, and become decision-makers on the world stage.

The Community College Global Affairs Fellowship has two primary components: a virtual 1:1 mentorship program and a two-week in-person Summer Enrichment Program, in Washington, D.C. The application deadline is March 1, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Click here for the application and more details.


Get Trained and Find Flexible Work in Community Schools

Students need flexible work hours with competitive pay! Substitute teaching is the perfect job for our college students. In partnership with the NOVA Foundation and Prince William County Schools, the Learning on the Job: Everyone Wins grant allows students to develop their professional skills and serve our community schools. Selected students will receive training from the Teacher Education Program, serve as substitutes in Title I Schools, and have the chance to earn a $500 scholarship to NOVA!
