Student Learning Outcomes at NOVA Workshop Series: III.Using SLO Results to Improve Student Learning

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Student Success Initiatives is offering a three part series of workshops on SLOs at NOVA, open to all faculty and staff. The series will discuss the importance of SLOs at NOVA and provide information and practice on identifying and writing SLOs, selecting and designing assessment measures that provide useful results, gathering and summarizing results, and using results to improve teaching and student learning. Faculty with and without SLOs assessment experience are encouraged to attend. This information is also applicable to developing and assessing course objectives. The workshops give a comprehensive overview of the assessment process at NOVA, starting with writing program SLOs and mapping out where they are introduced, practiced, and mastered by students in the course curriculum in Session 1. Session 2 empowers programs and faculty with practical guidance in devising appropriate assessment measures. April 30th is International Jazz Day sponsored by UNESCO "to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe." Last year, jazz concerts were presented in 195 countries and on all seven continents. NOVA is hosting our own Jazz Day celebration Sunday, April 30th at 7:30pm in the Waddell Theater on the Loudoun Campus and you are all invited to attend. NOVA's Sterling Sound Jazz Ensemble will be joined by the local Loudoun Jazz Ensemble to present an evening of small group and big band jazz.

The event is free and no tickets are required. Free will donations will be collected at the door to support NOVA's Music Department in its effort to continue to offer free concerts to the public. Parking is free in "B" lots that evening.
