In support of NOVA's vision and mission, Student Development's programs and services are designed to promote student learning and interpersonal growth for a diverse student body through key stages in your academic career at NOVA, such as orientation and transition to academics, transfer and career counseling and preparation for graduation.

Dean of Students Office

The mission of the Dean of Students Office is to support student learning and development through community building, advocacy and student engagement.

In addition to offering programs and activities, we review various request and appeal processes for students including academic overload requests, academic probation/suspension appeals, academic renewals, medical withdrawals and course substitution requests.

Advising & Counseling

Academic Advising helps you to plan a program that will meet your educational objectives. If you are a new student or have questions, a counselor will help guide you through the sometimes confusing administrative procedures and requirements. All NOVA campuses have counselors available by appointment or walk-in.

  • Transfer Counseling

    It is never too early to begin planning for a smooth transfer. The longer you wait to make a decision, the more you risk delaying degree completion.

Enrollment Services

Enrollment Services (formerly Admissions & Records) maintains your academic records at NOVA. Services offered include assistance with completing admission application, registration, class changes (drops/withdrawals/audits) and domicile determination.

GPS - First-Year Student Advising

First-Year Student Advising, GPS for Success, is designed to provide a comprehensive advising experience to students who are recent high school graduates, have never been to college before and are enrolled in an academic program.

International Student Office

The International Student Office (ISO) can assist you with immigration advice related to your F-1 status, updating or extending your I-20 or transferring to another school in the U.S. The ISO staff also offers personal and academic advising.
