NOVA was initially accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) in 1968. NOVA was last reaffirmed in June 2012. Reaffirmation of our accreditation occurs every 10 years. This reaffirmation of accreditation process underscores NOVA's commitment to continuous improvement and to remaining a good steward of the public funds entrusted to the college. Maintaining
The process of reaffirmation of our accreditation involves the following:
- A collective analysis and judgment by our internal constituencies
- An informed review by peers external to the institution
- A reasoned decision by the elected members of the SACSCOC Board of Trustees.
- Development of a Quality Enhancement Plan
NOVA must demonstrate that the institution functions appropriately with respect to its resources, programs, and services.
In Fall 2019, faculty and staff across the College submitted a total of 14 proposals for NOVA's Quality Enhancement Plan. A subcommittee of NOVA's Steering Committee collected feedback from the College and refined the proposals into six themes, all focused on important topics related to student success and student learning.
Based on the work of this committee and input from college-wide stakeholders, the topic for NOVA’s QEP will be Student Academic Success Services (SASS).
A diverse, multi-unit QEP Development Committee has been assembled, co-chaired by Tamara Warren Chinyani (WO) and Emily Miller (MEC). Over this academic year, students, staff and faculty will have the opportunity to learn more about the QEP and provide feedback.
The QEP is due to SACSCOC in August 2021. You can find out more about NOVA's QEP process here.
