GM ASEP Program

General Motors, local GM dealers, and NOVA work together to provide students with the latest technical training in the classroom, hands-on experience at the dealership, and an Associate degree with 80% GM certifications.  These qualifications turn our highly motivated GM ASEP students into highly paid technicians upon graduation in two years.

The General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program (GMASEP) is a collaboration between General Motors, local GM-affiliated dealerships, and NOVA. You spend half of the semester in the classroom and the other half working at your sponsoring dealership.

It is the perfect opportunity for you to receive hands-on training, gain a reputation, and earn money while going to school.

At the end of the two years (five semesters), you earn an associate degree and 80% of the requirements needed to be certified as a GM technician. You may continue to work at the dealership after you graduate.

Getting Started

Anyone interested in GMASEP should review and complete the following steps to apply to the program. If you are admitted into the program, you will then be required to find a sponsoring dealership that is willing to employ you for the duration of the program. A sponsor must be obtained no later than the first day of class. If you are unable to find a sponsor by the deadline, you will not be permitted to continue in GMASEP.

There are a limited number of applicants that can be accepted!

• Submit the ASEP Application Form by following the instructions at the bottom of the form.
• Submit a copy of your driving record. If you are a Virginia resident, you can request your driving record online or go to a DMV. This helps to assess your employment options.
• Apply for admission to NOVA. It's a simple, free, no-obligation online form.
• Take the GM ASEP aptitude test. Allow for at least one hour to complete the test.
• Determine English and Math placement.

• Obtain a sponsor.

Sponsorship

After you are officially accepted into the program, you need to begin the process of finding a sponsor. Sponsorship is a paid apprenticeship with the anticipation that you will enjoy working for that employer who invested in your training. It is your responsibility to obtain your sponsor, but we will assist you with resume editing, interview preparation, and finding job opportunities.

Once sponsored, you are expected to maintain a professional, humble attitude toward your employer and respect the opportunity they gave you. This professional attitude will help you to advance at a faster rate and build a positive reputation in this highly connected industry.

Cost

The cost for the GMASEP automotive program is significantly less than other technical colleges due to the support you receive from General Motors and NOVA. You will need to pay normal tuition rates and the cost of books and tools. You should expect to purchase your own set of automotive tools to be kept at your job, which is estimated to be as much as $2,500 in their first semester. You will receive significant tool discounts from Snap-On and Matco while you are enrolled in the program.
