The Committee on Veterinary Technician of Education and Activities (CVTEA) Essential Skills are required skills that program students must complete to progress throughout the program. These skills are determined by the AVMA which is the accrediting body for NOVA’s Veterinary Technology Program. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure they complete these skills in their assigned courses. Students who miss laboratory classes or field trips in which the CVTEA Essential Skills are covered will be required to provide a video record of successful completion of required skills, based on the rubric provided and using their own resources. All CVTEA skills assigned in the course are required to be completed by the student before continuing to the next semester or graduating from the Veterinary Technology Program. Students can find the list of essential skills and their detailed grading rubrics in the Canvas course that is associated with the skills.
