House on the Ed Fair Farm

This house sits to the right of Ed Fair's home on Roy Webb Road. This house is possibly the house where Rick Bragg lived with his mother and grandmother. Today the house is used as a tool shed, as are many old houses on Alabama farms.

Bragg recalled the house where he grew up: " I came to see the little house we lived in, surrounded on two sides by the cotton field, on one side by a vast green pasture and on the other by creek and swamp, as the place we belonged" (49). It is not hard to imagine this house, or a similar one, as the the house of his memories.
