What Is a QR Code?

QR Codes (Quick Response Codes) are small square dot-matrix barcodes that contain data that can be read by a QR Code reader or scanner. These readers are commonly found on smartphones or other mobile devices. Your mobile device’s camera reads the barcode and displays the data contained within the code.

How to Use a QR Code

You will need three things to scan a barcode:

  1. A mobile device with a camera -- ex: smartphone, iPad, Android tablet, etc.
  2. QR Code reader app. This app can be downloaded from your platform app store.
  3. A QR Code to scan. Try scanning one of the codes above.

Open your QR Code reader app and scan the QR Code. Your reader app will decipher the code and translate it into a Web address. You will then be taken to the Web address.
