Unfortunately, funds for the Workforce Credential Grant (WCG) are no longer available for any program that begins on or after November 30, 2017. If you have met all pre-qualifications for a course that begins before November 30, and have not registered, we urge you to register as soon as possible. Funds and space availability are on a first come first serve basis. Once a course is filled we will not be able to honor the same pricing for future courses.
What is the Workforce Credentials Grant (WCG)?
Sometimes the cost of programs that prepare you for high-demand careers can create a financial barrier. The Workforce Credential Grant (WCG) subsidizes the cost of select pre-approved high-demand training programs. Students are required to pay one third the cost of the program with the explicit expectation they will seek and obtain the related credential identified for their program of choice. Failure to complete the class will result in the student’s financial obligation to pay an additional one third of the cost of the program back to the Commonwealth of Virginia. Funding for this program is limited. The funds are available to Virginia residents who meet Virginia domicile requirements. See list of eligible programs below.
Those that participate in the WCG program are financially responsible for the first third of the full course cost. If you are financially unable to pay the first third as determined by the predefined set of criteria, you may qualify for Workforce Financial Assistance (FANTIC). Funding for both the WCG and the FANTIC programs is limited.
What is the Workforce Financial Assistance (FANTIC)?
Workforce Financial Assistance (FANTIC) provides funding for students demonstrating the required financial need who desire to enroll in an approved workforce training program leading to the attainment of an industry recognized credential or licensure and are not eligible for other funding grants or financial assistance. Applicants will be awarded on a first come first served basis. This financial assistance program will pay for 80% of the student’s cost (first one third of the WCG program) for the program. Qualified student will be responsible for 20% of student portion (first one third of the WCG program) at the time of registration. Funding for this program is limited. If using FANTIC funds and you do not pass the class you will be responsible for paying the second full one third of the overall class cost.

*What is Expected?
Those participating in either WCG or FANTIC programs will be expected to regularly attend and participate in all classes. Participants MUST attend at least 90% of class meetings or they will not pass the class. Participants must also sit for/take the industry certification in order to pass the class. Those that do not pass the class, (for any reason), may not sit for the industry certification exam and will be invoiced and responsible for paying the second full one third of the class overall cost (regardless of whether the credential exam is bundled in the cost of the class or requires an additional fee for a credential assessment/certification exam at a third-party site).
NOTE: For some WCG Information Technology classes, the participant will have one week after the last classroom class session to take a practice TRANSCENDER test at the NOVA Workforce Professional Test Center. If the participant scores high enough on the TRANSCENDER, the participant will then have three more weeks, (a total of 30 days after the last in classroom class session), to take the industry certification exam at the NOVA Workforce Professional Test Center.
*These expectations are for both WCG and FANTIC participants.
