You can earn more than one degree or certificate
at NVCC. All of the graduation requirements for each individual curriculum
must be completed prior to the award of the degree or certificate

Studies is one of the multiple degrees to be awarded, the A. S. degree
in General Studies shall include a minimum of 9 semester hours beyond
the requirements of any other degree awarded to you by the College.

Your faculty advisor must approve all substitutes.

PED 116, then you must also take a 1 credit PED elective.
- I have quarter credits. How are they counted under
the semester system?
Quarter credits can still be counted under the
present system. However, 1 quarter credit is equal to 2/3 of a semester

Credit and Advance Standing
- How do I get an evaluation of my prior learning?
You need to declare a major before an evaluation
will be completed. See a counselor to declare a major. Then you should
get all transcripts from other colleges sent to Woodbridge’s Admissions & Records
Office. They will evaluate your transcript and send you a yellow
copy of NVCC form 125-9. Forms are available at the Admissions & Records Office.
- Can I get credit for prior learning?
Yes. NVCC has a program called PLACE (Prior Learning
Activity for Credit Evaluation). PLACE is for adults who have gained
college level learning through work, volunteer activities, participation
in civic and community assignments, travel, independent study, and
similar "life experiences".
In order to convert these experiences into college
credit, students must register for STD 298, Seminar and Project PLACE
Workshop. This course assists students in assembling a portfolio
of evidence of their accomplishments. Completed portfolios are assessed
by designated faculty who may recommend the awarding of credits.
Up to 15 semester credits in degree programs or
10 semester credits in certificate programs may be awarded through
the portfolio process. Credits earned through PLACE cannot be used
to fulfill residency requirements.
