| Academic Assistants |
Academic Assistants are students
who are dedicated to the support of the Tutoring services
and the Math and Writing Center. This group sponsors public reading
and workshops in the center, Room 328, as well as competitions open to the entire campus. Trained
members of the group also volunteer in Community-wide tutoring
programs for
at least one semester.

| African American Student Association |
The purpose of the
African-American Student Association of Northern Virginia Community
College (Woodbridge Campus) is to provide an atmosphere
to allow a widening communication by eliminating existing racial
prejudices and pressures at NVCC and to promote more positive contacts
among African-American and Caucasian students, staff, and faculty;
to establish a program designed to enhance the study and appreciation
for African-American culture and to uplift the educational standards
of African-American students.

| Criminal Justice Club |
The objectives
of the Criminal Justice Club are to promote camaraderie among those
who academically study criminal justice; promote professional,
academic, and public awareness of criminal justice studies; promote
professional attitudes and support students of the Administration
of justice; encourage academic excellence and integrity for those
who seek to join; and promote high standards of ethical conduct and
professional training in the Administration of Justice fields.

| French Club |
The French Club is a student Organization born from a desire express by many students to know more about the French language and the culture surrounding it. The French Club works to promote an atmosphere of exchange between the languages of French and English. The club sponsors many activities such as: cultural contests, trips to discover the francophone world locally and internationally, participation to francophone festivals in the DC area.

| G.L.O.B.A.L. |
The main goal
of “GLOBAL” (Gay,
Lesbian, or Bisexual Alliance) is to bring together supporters
of the GLBT youth, and
those who are in need of a place of acceptance. This is a safe
haven for gay students to talk about issues concerning their life,
such
as coming out and dealing with stereotypes. GLOBAL strives to spread
word of tolerance ad acceptance for all groups: Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual,
Tran gendered, and Straight in all of their activities and functions.

The Massage
Therapy Club is designed to foster interest among NVCC students
and the college community in the massage therapy program
and provide educational and recreational opportunities for massage
therapy students.

| Phi Theta Kappa - Alpha Delta Tau Chapter |
The purpose of Phi
Theta Kappa is to recognize and encourage scholarship among community
and junior college students; to provide leadership
training; to promote an interchange of ideas and ideals; and to instill
among its members a desire for continuing education. Students must
be invited to join PTK with contingencies based on having a minimum
G.P.A. of 3.5 and completion of 12 credit hours.

| Student Christian Union |
The “Student Christian Union” is
a Christian outreach and fellowship to students on Campus. The
SCU also serves the campus
by providing social, outreach, and service evens that are open
to any student or faculty member who may wish to participate.

| Science Club |
The Science Club is open to all students, faculty, and staff interested in any aspect of science including chemistry, physics, biology, ecology, and astronomy. The goals of the Science Club are to promote scientific activities through field trips, guest speakers, and community service. Other functions of the Science Club include providing information on internships, scholarships, and admissions to pharmacy, dental, medical, and graduate schools.
Some of the Science Club activities from last year included a fund-raiser for community colleges in the Gulf Coast region damaged by Hurricane Katrina, clean-up of the Occaquan watershed, a visit to the Joint Technology Sequencing Center, observation of cardiace surgery at Fairfax Hospital, tour of the Clinical Research Center at the National Institutes of Health, and a visit to summer research poster day at the National Institutes of Health.
