- Welcome to the Woodbridge Campus Library.
- This tour will show you around the library and give some basic
information about library collections, policies, and hours.
- It will begin at the entrance to the library.
- Tour sheet answers will be highlighted in RED.

- The tour will start with the circulation desk, which is on your left as
you enter.
- Here you check out books, magazines, audiovisual materials, and reserve
items on the shelves behind the counter.

- In order to check things out of the library, you need an updated library
card.
|
|

- Your student identification card is also your library card.
- Bring your card to the library to have the bar code on the back entered
into the library computer system.

- As a currently enrolled student, you can borrow up to a total of 10
items including:
- Books (3 per subject for 3 weeks)
- Audiovisuals (3 for 1 week)
- Magazines (5 for 1 week)
- Newspapers (5 for 1 week)
- Pamphlets (3 for 1 week)
- Borrowing rules are on our library bookmarks

- Located behind the Circulation Desk are the Reserve shelves.
- Faculty place print and AV items for class use.
- You will have to sign a card for all reserves and only use them in the
library.

- Across from the Circulation Desk are two copiers which take nickels,
dimes, quarters or dollar bills or plastic copy cards.
- Copies are 15 cents each.

- In front of the copy machine is a rack for daily local and national
newspapers.
- A large stand to the right has music CDs and audiotapes.
|
|

- When you go through the doors at the end of the Circulation Desk
counter, you will be in the main floor area of the library.

- On the right, under the windows is the Career Corner.
- This three part area is a special collection. Books on a specific
subject are put in this separate area for easy use.

- Information on individual career books, job skills, and resume writing
are taped in red.
|

- To the left of the Career Corner is the Reference section.
- Encyclopedias, dictionaries, almanacs, chronologies, biographies and
atlases are shelved here.
- Reference books cannot be checked out of the library.

- Books in the Reference section, and other library areas are labeled and
filed by the Library of Congress system.
|

- The Library of Congress call number system, used here at Woodbridge
library and most universities, first puts books by broad subjects, using
the letters of the alphabet, then by numbers for more specific topics.

- To the left of the Reference area is the Information Desk.
- Librarians there will help in locating print and online sources.
- There are also free handouts for magazines and newspaper indexes,
offcampus access directions, library maps, and research guides.

- Behind the Information Desk is the Audiovisual Viewing area for watching
videos, or listening to tapes or CD’s.
|

- To the left of AV Viewing, are the main book stacks, where the books
that circulate, or go out of the library, are located.
- As in other library areas, books are arranged by the Library of Congress
system.

- There are labels on the sides and top of the shelves to help locate
books.
|

- To the left of the book stacks are three specific Audiovisual sections.
- First, are the Extended Learning Institute course videos, then the math
videos. These can only be used in the library.
- At the far back are circulating videos and audiocassettes on yellow
labeled shelves. These can be checked out for one week.

- To the left of the Information Desk is a low bookcase with three other special
collections.
- Student Development reserves, for orientation, are in the front. Books
here can be checked out for one week; videocassettes have to be viewed
in the library.
- English Composition (pink sign) with learning audiovisuals for the
English language. These can be
checked out for one week.
- Best Sellers, in the back, can be checked out for three weeks.

- Behind this bookcase are the Vertical Files.
- This is a special collection of pamphlets arranged by 900 subjects.
- Browse in the file cabinets for your topic and borrow three items per
subject for a week.

- Woodbridge subscribes to about 100 magazines and newspapers.
- The latest magazines are kept in binders on the slanted shelves at the
front, and cannot be taken out of the library.

- Older issues are stored in alphabetical order in boxes on the back
shelves.
- Magazines are generally kept here several years.
- Back issues are usually stored online; some are stored on microform.

- At the back of the magazine storage areas are orange hanging folders for
the newspapers.
- Paper issues are kept for three to six months, and can be checked out.

- Along the back wall are microfilm and microfiche readers for reading and
printing microform.
- Copies are 15 cents per page. Please pay at the Circulation Desk.

- To the left of the magazine shelves is the Computer Index area.
- Computers are for research. You can find items in the online catalogs,
magazine and newspaper indexes, and the Internet.

- The Woodbridge library has its own website.
- Links connect to the online book catalog, magazine and newspaper
subscription databases, and other useful information.

- The Woodbridge website is Internet accessible and can be loaded into
home computers for free use except for subscription sites.
- Currently enrolled students can obtain
passwords to get into subscription sites from off campus
following these Remote Access directions.

- The Woodbridge Library staff welcomes you to our facility.
- The library is open from 8 AM to 10 PM Monday through Thursday, Friday,
8 AM to 5 PM, and during Fall and Spring semesters, is also open on
Saturdays, 9 AM to 3 PM.
- Telephone reference service and intercampus book loans for NVCC
libraries are also available.
