- This tour will show you around the library and give some basic
information about library collections, policies, and hours.
- It will begin at the entrance to the library.
- Tour sheet answers will be highlighted in RED.

- The tour will start with the circulation desk, which is on your left as
you enter.
- Here you can check out books, magazines, AV materials, and Reserve
items.

- In order to check materials out of the library, you must provide a
library card.
- Your NOVACARD ID is your library card.
|
|

- As a currently enrolled student, you can borrow up to a total of 10
items including:
- Books (3 per subject for 3 weeks)
- Audiovisuals (3 for 1 week)
- Magazines (5 for 1 week)
- Newspapers (5 for 1 week)
- Borrowing rules are on our library bookmarks.

- Located behind the Circulation Desk are the Reserve shelves.
- Faculty place print and AV items for class use.
- You will need to provide your NOVACard ID for all reserve items.
- Most reserve items are for library use only, though a few circulate
overnight or for seven days.

- Across from the Circulation desk are two photocopiers.
- The copiers take the NOVACard and Guest Card. They do not take cash or
change.
- Copies are 10 cents each using the NOVACard and 20 cents each using the
Guest Card.

- This Diebold copy card machine, which only takes bills, puts money on
NOVACard IDs and issues Guest Cards.
- These cards are needed to print within the library and the Open Computer
Lab. These cards can also be used to photocopy.

- In front of the copy machine is a rack for daily local and national
newspapers.
- Small shelving behind the newspaper rack holds a small collection of
music CDs. These are primarily military, world, and classical music CDs.

- When you go through the doors at the end of the Circulation Desk
counter, you will be in the main floor area of the library.

- On the right, under the windows is the Career Corner.
- This three part area contains special collections.
|

- To the left of the Career Corner is the Reference section.
- Encyclopedias, dictionaries, almanacs, chronologies, biographies and
atlases are shelved here.
- Reference books cannot be checked out of the library.

- Books in the Reference section and other library areas are labeled and
filed by the Library of Congress classification system.
|

- The Library of Congress classification system, used here at the
Woodbridge library and academic libraries, first puts books in order by
broad subjects; using the letters of the alphabet, then by numbers for
more specific topics.

- To the left of the Reference area is the Information Desk.
- Librarians there will help locate print and online sources.
- There are also free handouts for research guides and MLA/APA citation
styles. These are also available online at www.nvcc.edu/woodbridge/library

- To the right of the Information Desk is the Audiovisual Viewing area for
watching videos/DVDs or listening to CD’s.
|

- Along the walls of the library are separate quiet study carrels.
- Some study carrels also include wired connectivity for laptops.

- To the left of the AV Viewing are are the main book stacks where books
that circulate, or can be checked out of the library, are located.
- As in other library areas, books are arranged by the Library of Congress
classification system.

- To the left of the book stacks is our AV collection.
- This area includes DVDs and VHS tapes which can be checked out for 1
week.
- Some campus math videos are
available and can only be used in the library.

- Behind the Information Desk is a low bookcase with one special
collection.
- English as a Second Language (pink sign) with learning audiovisuals for
the English language are in the front on the left. These can be checked out for one week.

- To the left of the Information Desk are the current magazines.
- Woodbridge subscribes to about 243 magazines and newspapers.
- The latest magazines are kept in binders on the slanted shelves at the
front and cannot be taken out of the library.

- Older issues are stored in alphabetical order in boxes on the back
shelves.
- Magazines are kept here for one year.
- Back issues are usually available online.

- At the back of the magazine storage areas are orange hanging folders for
the newspapers.
- Paper issues are kept for one to two months and can be checked out.

- To the left of the magazine shelves and to the left of the information
desk are the Computer areas.
- The computers can be used for internet access, library research, and
Microsoft Office programs.

- Choose “Pay NovaCard” and the cost is 10 cents a page using your
NovaCard. The cost is 20 cents a page using the Guest Card.
- Print jobs will be in the print station queue in the middle of the
terminals.
- Select your print job and swipe your NovaCard or Guest Card.

- The Woodbridge Campus Library has its own website at www.nvcc.edu/woodbridge/library
- Links connect to the online library catalog, periodical databases, and
other useful information.

- The Woodbridge Campus Library website is Internet accessible.
- The periodical databases can be accessed from home using your
NovaConnect username and password.

- You can also access the library catalog and databases from www.nvcc.edu
|

- During the Fall and Spring semesters, the Library is open from 8am –
10pm Monday through Thursday, 8am – 5pm on Friday, and 9am – 3pm on
Saturdays.
